Aims of Position

To actively participate with other members of staff in meeting the personal needs of residents in such a way as to respect the dignity of the individual to promote independence.
To actively participate with other members of staff, in meeting the social needs of the resident.
To help in the care of the residents physical environment and in the general day-to-day activities in the Home.

Responsibilities

To assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing, toileting, bathing and feeding.
To provide adequate and appropriate care for residents confined to bed.
To take appropriate levels of care when handling property belonging to residents.
To help residents who have mobility problems and other physical disabilities. To assist in the use, maintenance and care of personal aids and equipment.
To promote the mental and physical wellbeing of residents through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreation.
To ensure that unnecessary damage to the building and contents is not caused by careless movement of residents property – wheelchairs etc.
To make and change beds, empty commodes, tidy rooms and undertake designated cleaning duties.
To inspect, launder and repair residents clothing.
To assist in the setting of tables and trays, preparing, serving and clearing away meals.
To answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone and greet visitors.
To read reports, take part in staff and residents meetings and in training activities as directed.
To make written observations of the resident.
To attend mandatory training courses relevant to the position as directed by the Managers.
Practises safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in particular moving and handling of loads, by assessing risk and having due regard for personal safety and the safety of residents, visitors and staff.
Act courteously towards residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each resident.
