Senior Cleaner
Stroud
37 hours a week, term time plus an additional week during school holidays (39 weeks per year)
Job Purpose
To undertake duties in support of the cleaning of the school premises to ensure that they are
kept in a clean and hygienic condition.
Main duties and responsibilities
Normal cleaning duties will include:
- Cleaning areas to the required specification as directed, using correct techniques and
- cleaning equipment. Areas will include, but are not limited to:
1) Washing of floors, walls and hard surfaces
2) Sweeping
3) Vacuuming
4) Polishing and dusting
5) Cleaning of toilets, showers and hygiene rooms
6) Cleaning of kitchens
7) Fixtures and fittings
8) Internal glass and external windows
- Safe removal of litter and waste to the allocated disposal points, taking particular care with liquids, broken glass or other substances
- Locking and unlocking windows and doors as directed
- Cleaning of the swimming pool and changing rooms to ensure a high standard is maintained
- Undertaking training as directed by the Site Manager e.g. Manual handling, COSHH awareness training
- Working safely using the correct PPE and warning signs and being mindful of hazards to other staff and students
- Complying with Health & Safety requirements and procedures and ensuring that safe working practices are always followed
- Replenishing supplies of toiletries, bin bags etc.
- Ensuring all cleaning products are used safely and in accordance with manufacturers instructions and that all chemicals are securely stored away when not in use
- Emptying vacuum cleaners, cleaning and checking all equipment after use, checking cables for wear and tear and storing away in a suitable safe area
- Ensuring mops, cloths etc are washed and left to dry as appropriate
- Reporting immediately any defective electrical equipment, sockets, lighting, fittings and fixtures to the Site Manager
- Monitoring the use of cleaning supplies and informing the Site Manager of low stock levels
- Any other related duties, as directed by the Site Manager

To ensure that all health and safety instructions are followed and that all reasonable care is taken not to do anything that might endanger the postholder or others; to report to the line manager, or person in authority any dangerous situations in the workplace or any perceived shortcomings in health and safety arrangements.

Special conditions
This job description sets out the main duties of the post at the date when it was drawn up.
Such duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed. Such variations are a common occurrence and cannot of themselves justify a reconsideration of the grading of the post.
Normal hours of work will be from 7.00am until 3.00pm Monday to Thursday and from 7.00am until 2.30pm on Fridays, with a daily unpaid lunch break of 30 minutes.
All leave must be taken when the school is not in session. The job holder must work an additional week during school holidays, and this will include the first day of the academic year, an inset day for Safeguarding training in October if required with the remaining three days as directed by the Site Manager.
All positions are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
