Apprentice Accountant/Trainee Client Manager
Cheltenham
Position: Apprentice Accountant / Trainee Client Manager
Working Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Lower Ground Floor, 122 Bath Road, Cheltenham
Reporting to: Operations Manager (Emily Wells)

At CTA, we’re not just hiring an apprentice—we’re searching for our next Client Manager. You will be part of our close-knit team, working with a variety of clients from different industries. You’ll receive hands-on training and mentoring, gaining valuable experience while studying towards your professional accounting qualification.
The role will be office-based in our Cheltenham office for the first year(with days off to attend college), after which there may be the opportunity to work from home on a hybrid basis, depending on your learning and performance. Salary will be reviewed every six months, with the expectation that significant pay rises can be earned over the course of your training period.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Standard roles
Learning how to manage client relationships and provide exceptional service
- Our main aim is to provide a great client experience through swift and efficient support with queries and providing proactive touch points throughout their financial year
- Be the first point of call for all incoming calls into the business (we also have a virtual reception overflow)
- Speaking to new prospects about our services, checking that they are a "good fit" for our business and putting together a proposal of services and fees for individual tax clients
- Making proactive calls to clients during their onboarding period and ongoing to ensure client happiness and retention
- Assist existing clients with routine administration and technical queries
- Assisting our Client Managers with fee reviews by preparing the numbers and booking in meetings
Assisting with bookkeeping and preparing financial reports
- Complete weekly and monthly bookkeeping for a small portfolio of clients
- Being proactive in requesting and ‘chasing’ client information required to complete work assignments
Supporting the preparation of tax returns and VAT submissions
- Requesting and reviewing information from clients for self-assessment tax returns
Assisting in payroll processing
- Learn how to process monthly payrolls for directors and employees
Gaining a strong understanding of accounting software and systems
- Use our suite of software to prepare bookkeeping, payroll, tax returns and accounts
- Assist clients with how to use software including Xero, Quickbooks and Apron
Supporting the team with administrative tasks as needed
- General admin tasks that include dealing with the post, scanning and emails (we have a Triage system that manages emails and internal communication)
Advanced roles (for candidates that progress or desire these roles)
- Taking on Company Secretarial work including filing Confirmation Statements, incorporating Limited companies and making other changes at Companies House
- Acting as an extension to the Client Managers in dealing with less complex client questions
- Taking business discovery calls to provide a proposal of services to businesses enquiring about joining us as a client
- Helping clients in their onboarding journey with more assistance around bookkeeping setup and overall client related onboarding requirements
Requirements and attributes:
Soft skills
- You are required to have a high level of interpersonal skills in this role
- You should have the ability to be an extremely good communicator
- You are a natural people person and love dealing with client’s routinequestions
- You have the ambition to develop into a client-facing role and lead a team in the future

Technical Requirements
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above)
- Knowledge of the following software
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Document storage systems experience (we use Sharepoint)
- You will need to be comfortable with technology as we rely on various software applications to provide a streamlined client experience (full training provides for all systems)
