Miserden Estate has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced gardener to work at the Miserden
Garden on a full or part-time basis.
Title: Gardener
Contract type: Full Time or Part Time
Hours: 07.45 to 17.00 Monday to Friday
The Role
Miserden Estate is looking for an experienced gardener to join the Miserden Garden team helping
care for and maintain the Garden on either a full time or part time basis. The role will also include
grounds maintenance when required around the Estate.
Miserden Garden was designed in the 17th Century and extends to 12.5 acres incorporating formal
mixed borders and lawns, an arboretum, a café visitor area and ancillary parkland areas. It is open to
the public for the spring and summer months, hosting a popular sculpture exhibition from May to
August. The Garden won the Historic Houses Garden of the Year Award in 2018 and continues to
upkeep similar levels of quality across the Garden.
Miserden is a diverse estate incorporating residential and commercial property, forestry, agriculture
and visitor enterprises, all of which interact with the Garden team on a regular basis. The Estate
operates with a ‘one-team’ ethos.
Job requirements and responsibilities
- Experience in general plant care and garden maintenance to ensure the garden always looks at its best. This includes all elements of garden maintenance – mowing, edging, weeding, planting, pruning, strimming, hedge cutting, leaf sweeping, cutting back, propagating, potting-on
- Knowledge and experience of operating garden machinery is essential
- Good horticultural knowledge including plant husbandry and planting plans
- An interest in traditional garden design is desirable
- Whilst not essential, it would be preferable if the candidate had a certificate of competence in the safe use of pesticides, plus working at heights training to assist with pruning in the garden
- Leading garden group tours as required
- Detail orientated with an energetic outlook
- Good communication skills and a friendly approachable manner
- A full driving licence
