Volunteer Coordinator
Stonehouse
Purpose:
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers to support the charity's various projects, campaigns, and services. This role ensures that the volunteers are engaged, supported, and contributing to the overall mission of the charity in an effective and meaningful way.
Main Responsibilities:
Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding:
- Develop and implement strategies to attract a diverse range of volunteers.
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment drives, including advertising and conducting interviews.
- Coordinate the onboarding process, including volunteer induction and initial training.
Volunteer Coordination and Support:
- Create and maintain volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage for various charity activities and services.
- Provide ongoing support and supervision to volunteers, offering guidance and problem-solving as needed.
- Organise regular check-ins and feedback sessions with volunteers to ensure satisfaction and engagement.
Training and Development:
- Plan and deliver training sessions to enhance volunteers’ skills and understanding of suicide prevention and support services.
- Identify and coordinate opportunities for volunteer skill development and learning.
Volunteer Retention and Engagement:
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for volunteers.
- Organise regular volunteer appreciation events, awards, or recognition programs to acknowledge the contributions of volunteers.
- Build strong relationships with volunteers, ensuring their long-term engagement with the charity.
Administration and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, including contact information, roles, training, and hours contributed.
- Monitor and report on volunteer involvement, including participation rates and feedback from both volunteers and service users.
- Assist with the preparation of reports on volunteer activities for internal use and funding applications.
Teamwork:
- Collaborate with other departments, such as the Fundraising and Engagement teams, to align volunteer efforts with broader charity initiatives.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that volunteer contributions are well-coordinated with the charity's goals and needs.
Ad-Hoc Tasks:
- Perform other related duties as requested by Senior Management, especially during key events or campaigns that require volunteer involvement.
Person Profile:
- Friendly, approachable, and empathetic.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate volunteers simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Confident in delivering training and presentations to groups.
- Proficient in IT systems, including Microsoft Office and volunteer coordination software.
- Flexible and adaptable to the needs of a growing charity.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Previous experience in volunteer coordination.
- Ability to manage a diverse group of volunteers and ensure smooth operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a charity or non-profit sector.
- Familiarity with volunteer software or systems.
- Understanding of mental health or suicide prevention services.
Support:
- The Operations Manager will provide the Volunteer Coordinator with regular supervision, guidance, and support to excel in their role.
Contract length: 12 months
Expected hours: 15 per week
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
Experience:
- Volunteer coordination: 2 years (required)
