MCIT Intelligence Analyst - 6230

Gloucester

Role Type Police Staff
Local Policing/ Business Area Analysis Research & Planning
Department MCIT Brunel
Location HQ Waterwells
Grade SC6
Salary £32,247 - £34,329
Allowances Shift, Weekend Working
Hours per Week 37
Type of Contract Permanent

Description

The Major Crime Investigation Team is a three force collaboration covering Avon and Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire police force areas. The Gloucestershire team are based at HQ Waterwells.

We predominantly deal with murder offences but will also be involved in other incidents of major crime that occur in any of the three forces.

The MCIT team is a mixture of Police officers and staff. You will be in an intelligence team which consists of analysts, researchers and will be line managed by a Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst. We are an integral part of the investigation team and work closely with the investigators and prosecutors. Analysts are assigned to an investigation and will remain with that investigation through to conclusion at trial.

Our main focus is to analyse data often in the form of communications data, identifying investigative opportunities to understand the circumstances of the incident, who was involved, what the motive was, level of pre-planning and present this evidentially at court. It can often be the work of the analytical team which identifies suspects in the most complex of murder investigations where suspects are unknown. It is a really rewarding area and exciting place to work in.

Your day to day work can be unpredictable, requiring great flexibility and resilience. When new investigations commence, they are fast paced and there is often a requirement to work additional hours at short notice, but these are compensated through overtime.

The role in MCIT requires working a shift pattern which is a combination of day shifts 0800-1800 and late shifts 1400-2200 shifts. You will be required to work 1 weekend in every 4 and will gain days off in the week. This attracts unsociable hours allowance in addition to the salary. This role may also require you to work within any of the three police force areas we serve.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required:

- Knowledge of statistical analysis and data presentation techniques

- Possess a high level of computer literacy

- Sound and demonstrable working knowledge of other computer software applications, in particular MS Office products, that may assist in analysis and presentation

- Possess effective written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate the ability to disseminate the results of analysis in an accurate and timely manner

- Ability to manage and prioritise a large workload efficiently, with the minimum of supervision

- Possess relevant analytical experience, preferably within a law enforcement environment

- Ability to grasp new concepts and techniques and to integrate them into the workplace

Educational:

Post-holder should be educated to at least A-level standard, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience, preferably gained within a law-enforcement environment

Desirable:

- An understanding of police work

- Knowledge of analytical techniques applicable to law enforcement, including qualitative and quantitative data analysis

- Demonstrate previous experience in the use of visual analysis software, such as i2 Analyst Notebook or Workstation

- Demonstrate previous experience in the use of geographical information systems (GIS), such as MapInfo or Blue8

- Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model and its analytical products

- An understanding of the intelligence cycle, particularly as it relates to law-enforcement activity
