Animal Welfare Officer - FG/LM/01/24
Cinderford
Foyle Gloucester requires a Lairage Manager / Animal Welfare Officer to be based at their Foyle Gloucester site, located in Cinderford, Gloucestershire. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of most progressive beef processing groups in the UK and Ireland.
Reporting to the Production Manager you will be responsible for coordinating operations in the Lairage including animal welfare, receipt of animals, movement of animals, communication with farmers and haulers, organisation of staff and communication with Department staff on site.
For this key position with a strong emphasis on animal welfare we are seeking an individual who has in depth knowledge and experience in handling livestock in particular cattle. The salary package for this role will reflect the importance of the position.
In the main the role will involve working Monday to Friday between 06:30 and 16:30 with up to and including 6 Saturday operations annually between September and December.
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum 3 years’ extensive experience working with and handling livestock (Cattle)
- Knowledge of animal welfare standards
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Capable of motivating and leading the lairage team in a pressured environment
- Ability to work in an efficient and safe manner
- IT literate
Desirable Criteria:
- Animal Welfare Training Certificate
- 3rd level education in an agricultural discipline
