Assistant Director - 10973

Gloucester

This is a Gloucestershire County Council job.

About us

What we achieve today in making Gloucestershire a place where children and young people can thrive, develop, and reach their potential will shape and influence our communities for generations to come, which is why we want to make Gloucestershire a great place for children to grow up and lead remarkable lives.

It is vital that vulnerable children and young people achieve the best possible outcomes and that children who are in need or at risk get high quality support that makes a real and lasting difference in their lives.

Children’s Services are an absolute priority for the council and there is political and corporate commitment behind our change programme, backed up by increased investment.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection highlighted that significant improvement has taken place, but we need to maintain the momentum of change.

Our commitment is to build on our strengths and ensure an unwavering focus on the areas where we still need to improve.

About the role

Our four Assistant Directors have the resources and the authority they need to make our ambition a reality for children, young people and families.

They lead social work teams in the following areas:

•    Gloucestershire North (Cheltenham & Tewkesbury)
•    Gloucestershire South (Cotswold & Stroud)
•    Gloucestershire West (Gloucester and Forest of Dean)
•    Gloucestershire Central Area (County-Wide and Specialist)

We are currently recruiting for a new Assistant Director for Gloucestershire North. It’s an exciting time to join us, as we embrace the coming challenges of creating flexible family help services, alongside multiagency child protection teams.

The Assistant Director role is central in leading this change, engaging staff throughout the service and embedding a new model of delivery that will enable systemic social work practice and encourage early intervention.

About you

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and capable children’s services leader who is ambitious for children, adaptable in their leadership style, and knows the value of supporting staff to create the conditions for outstanding practice.
