Senior Support Worker - Part Time

We have an exciting opportunity for a female senior support worker to join a small friendly team at Th3 Sun CIC in Stroud. You must be emotionally intelligent, self-aware and have a friendly and flexible approach and an ability to work calmly under pressure.

We are a small but growing provider of supportive accommodation to vulnerable women in Gloucestershire. We provide person-centred, effective, and compassionate support for vulnerable women experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
This role has been created to support the Operations Manager as they develop a partnership project to grow the provision of Th3 Sun CIC in Gloucestershire.
Whilst this is a 12-month, fixed term contract, it is hoped that the success of the project may create a permanent opportunity within this organisation.

As a Senior Support Worker, you will be supporting women who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing homelessness. Women who may have experienced trauma, abuse, substance misuse, poor mental health or been part of the care system.
The people we support within our services can display challenging behaviour towards you, so the ability to remain calm and level-headed in all situations would be advantageous.
You will also undertake delegated supervisory responsibilities and provide leadership to less experienced staff to ensure the development of best care practice and optimal outcomes for residents.
Previous experience of working in the support sector is essential.

Core Objectives/Purpose of the post
To provide practical, physical and emotional support to single vulnerable women living in our emergency accommodation.
To act as an appropriate role model and to work closely with them to empower them to address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential.
To provide support and encouragement to the support staff and volunteers of Th3 Sun CIC.

Main Tasks/duties and responsibilities
- Provide physical, emotional, intellectual, social support to residents in a way that is respectful, promotes dignity and independence.
- To provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which residents can feel secure and free from harm.
- Establishing relationships that residents perceive to be positive, warm and rewarding Providing advice, assistance and support on a 1:1 basis to enable residents to address past and present difficulties.
- Communicating with the people you support using appropriate communication methods.
- Developing and implementation of personal support plans.
- Assisting residents with navigating the welfare system and advocating for them when necessary.
- Supporting the Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of the accommodation.
- Keeping accurate records, providing written reports and completing any appropriate documentation that is needed.

- being aware of the aims and objectives of the home and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them.
- Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them.

Essential Abilities/ Competencies of this job role
You need
- Experience working with vulnerable people, ideally vulnerable women
- NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care, working towards or above
- A full driving licence and access to a car
- An enhanced DBS
- Flexibility in working approach and hours when required to cover sickness
- Empathetic approach but having the ability to instil firm boundaries and be confident to challenge behaviour when required.
- Ability to empathise and communicate with residents, colleagues and third-party agencies
- Good computer skills
- Good report writing skills
- Right to work in the UK
Special working Conditions
- This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening work, and an on-call rota system.
- The post holder is also required to work weekends as part of a rota, and Bank Holidays when required.
- On occasions you may be requested to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract, to ensure the contingencies of the service are covered. This may also include covering an additional sleep-in duty as an emergency measure.
- In accordance with the guidelines on Health and Safety, to accept responsibility for working within these guidelines and reporting any concerns to the Operations Manager.

Person Specification
Experience:
Essential
- Two years of experience as a support worker to vulnerable people.
- Experience of coordinating, supervising or mentoring others (in any work environment).
Desirable
- Experience of managing, coordinating, supervising or mentoring others in a social care environment.
Education, qualifications and training
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent relevant knowledge and experience gained
- on-the-job.
Desirable
- Other recognised qualifications in social care and support working e.g. Dip Social Work
Skills, abilities, knowledge and aptitude
Essential
- Ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload.
- Understanding of budgeting.
- Experience of using person-centred support plans.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to ongoing change.
- Able to lead others through change.
- Experience of participating in multi-agency meetings.
- Knowledge of drug and alcohol misuse.
- Knowledge of, and experience providing support, around mental health.
- Knowledge of the issues facing vulnerable women including domestic abuse.
- Good IT skills with ability to effectively use computer software packages i.e. Microsoft Office.
- Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with staff and clients.
- Demonstrable ability to challenge inappropriate behaviour, de-escalate challenging situations and manage conflict.

- Demonstrable ability to work unsupervised and meet deadlines.
