We are looking for a Assistant Caretaker to join our talented and supportive team at Marling
School. We are a thriving Multi-Academy Trust with a strong collective identity of working

The Site Team of Marling School are looking to recruit an energetic and motivated individual looking for a career supporting education in Stroud. Joining an established and experienced team in maintaining a clean, safe and secure site. Full training will be given so enthusiasm, innovation and a willingness to learn is essential. You will be methodical with a strong attention to detail. The role is varied and will involve working on your own initiative, as well as part of the team. Weekend hours to support community letting, as well as evening hours are available, for which additional allowances are paid. Split shifts will be considered.

Candidates should enjoy working outdoors on a variety of tasks and have:

Marling School Job Description

Position : Assistant Caretaker
Relationships:

The post holder is responsible to:
• the Principal in all matters
• the School Site Manager
• the Senior Caretaker

The post holder also interacts on a professional level with colleagues and seeks to
establish and maintain productive relationships with them and to promote mutual
understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching
and learning in the school.

Hours/days worked: 37hrs per week

Purpose / Overall Objective
1. To lock and secure the school site and all buildings when required.
2. To work under the direction of the Site Manager and Senior Caretaker to ensure that a clean, safe
environment, properly lighted and heated is maintained in order to facilitate the effective teaching of
students and its full use by the staff and students who use it.
3. To undertake basic Handyman and delivery duties as required.
4. To clear up hazards and set up and clear away for school events as directed.
5. To facilitate out of hours school lettings on a rota basis.

Key Tasks

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• To be responsible to the Site Manager and Senior Caretaker.
• To alert appropriate staff of any Health & Safety issues.
• To lock and secure the school site and buildings.
• To be responsible for the security of the premises and its contents in the absence of the Principal
Senior Leadership Team responsible in conjunction with the Site Manager or Senior Caretaker
and to cover for them in periods of absence through holidays and sickness.
• To be responsible to the Site Manager or Senior Caretaker for the use, maintenance and security
of plant, machinery based at the School.
• To act as the key holder and to attend ‘callouts’ out of normal hours if available when the Site
Manager or Senior Caretaker is absent through holidays or sickness.
• To operate the heating, lighting and plumbing systems at the School as directed.
• To undertake cleaning duties as required which occur during the School day and which cannot be
left to the cleaning staff.
• To act as a contact point and to liaise with building contractors.
• To immediately clear up any hazard to students and staff (eg. spilt chemicals or broken glass)
• To clear up paved areas and playgrounds where a hazard has occurred.
• To undertake porterage duties as required and to assist in the unloading of deliveries to the
School and loading of deliveries from the School.
• To undertake basic Handyman duties necessary (i.e. changing light bulbs & securing broken
windows).
• To set out and clear away chairs / tables as required for School events.
• To open up, lock up and facilitate out of hours lettings on a rota basis with other site staff to be
claimed in addition to salary.
• Will be required to work in any part of the establishment using safe working practices at all times.
• Duties may vary from time to time, for example to allow for School events.
• To comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Regulations.

• To take reasonable care for the Health and Safety of himself and for others affected by his work and to co-operate with the employer in ensuring that Health & Safety responsibilities are carried out.

Development
• To undertake training as required and agreed with the Site Manager
• Participate in the Performance Review Cycle

Additional Duties
• To know and implement school policies
• To maintain the confidentiality of all the School’s records relating to staff and students, in line with
the latest requirements of the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act.
• To contribute to the school ethos by helping to maintain good order, appearance and discipline of
all students within and beyond the classroom.
• To participate in meetings with colleagues relative to the post.
• Undertake other tasks as reasonably requested by the site manager
