Communications Manager
Gloucester
We’re looking for an experienced communications professional to lead the actions we take to convey our brand and messaging internally and externally.
Clarkson Evans is the largest electrical and solar installer working in the new build housing sector, wiring over 24,000 homes a year. Established over 40 years ago, we now employ more than 850 staff across the UK and we work with the country’s major house builders. At the core of our business lies our commitment to providing excellent service and achieving high-quality workmanship, as well as our dedication to training large numbers of electrical apprentices. As our values state, we show commitment to achieving high standards, we’ll change when there’s an opportunity to improve, we care about doing the right thing, through collaboration we achieve more, and we value long-term career progression.
We’re now looking for someone who wants to build on their significant experience in a similar role, with the likelihood of progressing over time to join our Senior Management Team. To do so, you’ll first need to hit the ground running as a competent manager, writer, organiser, presenter, relationship builder and all-round professional communicator.
As well as producing your own output to be proud of, you’ll be line manager for our highly experienced Multimedia Designer and you’ll work collaboratively to maximise the impact the small team can achieve.
Key responsibilities:
- Managing our social media presence (primarily using LinkedIn and Facebook)
- Managing production of our quarterly internal e-newsletters (for office-based staff), seeking input from various departments to write content and working with our Multimedia Designer on the layout
- Managing production of our quarterly internal video newsletters for site-based staff, leading planning meetings, supporting contributors with script writing, working with our Multimedia Designer and liaising with our external video production partner as necessary regarding edits
- Managing production of our annual customer newsletter, leading planning meetings, contributing content ideas, copywriting content and organising distribution
- Taking overall responsibility for ensuring our website content remains up-to-date and relevant for key audiences, especially potential new recruits and homeowners seeking trouble-shooting advice
- Managing a review of all printed and electronic company documentation including stickers, leaflets, posters, guidance booklets, organisation charts, forms and printed stationery to ensure brand guidelines are followed and content is up-to-date (i.e. that all documents present a consistent, professional image)
- Applying your communications expertise to support our Senior Management Team with campaigns to maximise internal engagement with departmental policies and processes
- Copywriting and issuing external press releases as required, actively leading promotion of our brand externally
- Producing and submitting entries for business awards, researching relevant information, copywriting and collating all supporting materials
- Copywriting and proofreading as required (e.g. internal posters, promotional leaflets, video scripts for internal communications)
- Line management of our Multimedia Designer, including goal setting, performance reviews and mentoring.
Role requirements
Professional experience/qualifications
- Experienced communications professional with a strong track record of leading effective internal and external campaigns
- Significant business writing/copywriting experience
- Highly active and effective social media user (for business)
- Experienced line manager
- A background in construction/manufacturing or another ‘blue collar’ industry would be helpful
General skills/personal attributes
- Confident ‘people person’ who actively builds a rapport with colleagues at all levels and adapts communication style to suit
- Flexible and happy to respond to changing priorities
- Ability to see the bigger picture, consider all angles and take a pragmatic approach
- Tenacious approach to completing projects to a high quality, on time and at the lowest cost
- Ability to motivate and mentor others
This is a full-time role (39 hours a week), based at our head office but with some flexibility for home working. Typically, you’ll prefer to be in the office most days to build relationships with colleagues across departments and to keep your ear to the ground for news and updates. Actual working hours may need to vary depending on what’s in the diary but it’s worth knowing that early starts (7.00 or 8.00am) are the norm in our industry, along with an early finish on Fridays.
The role comes with 28 days’ holiday plus bank holidays (plus the opportunity to ‘buy’ up to 5 extra days), a company pension scheme and life assurance. Social events are a key feature at Clarkson Evans, with a summer party, an annual trip to Cheltenham Races, a Children's Christmas party and regular events organised by our social committee. We have free on-site parking and a support and counselling service available to all employees.
