Overview
A fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join our thriving family run business. This is a new role which has become available due to company expansion and increased workload. We are seeking a hard-working and customer focused individual, who will enjoy working in a fun, but busy environment. The successful candidate will be working on a selection of construction projects across a variety of sectors. They will be able to, or willing to learn how to complete all aspects of cost management and quantity surveying, from inception to completion of projects.
The Company
Hygienic Commercial Interiors Ltd (Hycom) operates within the construction industry. The company has been established for 20 years, and is growing steadily. Hycom provides hygienic products available for direct sales on a next day delivery basis, and carries out UK wide installations of hygienic wall, floor and ceiling products. The company is fast paced, process driven, forward thinking and is always looking for new products and future areas of growth.
Excellent computer skills are required as we use a variety of integrated apps to aid our work. For this role in particular, apps to assist with measuring drawings and resource tracking will be used constantly. We are very keen to be efficient with our information flow, so sharing details correctly is vital.
Working Hours: 8:30 - 16:30 Monday to Friday (40 hours a week)
This position is based in a rural location. Please consider how you would be able to commute to and from work. This position is mainly desk based, with some site visits where necessary anywhere in the UK. However these are normally towards London and The Home Counties and not normally North of Manchester. Occasionally there may be very friendly office dogs present.
Job Tasks (including, but not limited to):
- Estimating and preparing tender submissions for new projects
- Take off measures from drawings
- Appraising and approving sub-contract applications and variations
- Quote creation
- Pricing and submitting variations on a regular basis
- Dealing with customers over the phone
- Communicating with the projects team and supplying quantities ready for orders
- Resolving invoice queries
- Liaising with the clients to agree valuations
- Surveying prospective new jobs (full training will be given)
- Attending pre-start meetings to develop knowledge
- In-house project tracking and account meetings
- Resource Tracking on our CRM, and a number of applications
- Manage a junior QS, who is currently doing an Apprenticeship
- Ensuring administrative help is also streamlined to keep quotation deadlines tracked and ahead of target
- Supporting all departments to promote continual growth
Skills Required:
- Be a great communicator with the ability to communicate both verbally, over the phone, and clearly, concisely and politely through the written word, via email
- Have achieved GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above (or equivalent)
- Have 3 years previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or relevant office/industry experience.
- Have the ability to see the detail in words and numbers
- Be able to stay alert within a fast paced working environment, with multiple daily deadlines
- Be happy, helpful, resourceful and keen to help solve a variety of problems
- Have a willingness to learn
- Be a self starter, and be self motivated, as well as being able to work within a team
- Be keen to take control of the quotation process and manage others to ensure our quotations are returned, both to a high standard, and within prompt competitive timelines

- It is important that the candidate is positive and has the right attitude for work, which is to be continually helpful, proactive and motivated
- The ability to work in a team
- Have good organisation skills
