Boarding House Pastoral Assistant

Cheltenham

Cheltenham College seeks to fill 2 x Pastoral Assistant (Day Matron) positions on a term-time only basis (33 weeks). The respective working patterns can be found below:


College’s houses offer outstanding pastoral care to day pupils and boarders alike, on a full and flexible basis, 7 days a week. Central to the successful running of the Houses, the Day Matron plays a vital part in a highly rewarding position, requiring dedication and commitment whilst providing first-class pastoral support to pupils. It is key role that helps to ensure a warm, family environment is created for the pupils in our care.


Every House is a small, close-knit community and has a distinctive character all of its own. Houses have an equal amount of year groups within it, with pupils of all ages socialising, mentoring and supporting each other throughout College life. This creates an environment that alleviates homesickness and encourages strong friendships while also fostering a deep sense of House honour and loyalty.


In conjunction with the Houseparent and other House staff, the Day Matron is responsible for the general welfare of the pupils within the House including providing pastoral, medical and domestic support.


Applicants should be organised, with a flexible and willing attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and an aptitude for dealing with young people in a close environment.

Working pattern 1 (Girls House): 20-30 hours per week
Thursdays and Fridays - 7.30am to 6pm
Alternating Saturdays - 7.30 to 6pm (approximately 12 alternating Saturdays per annum)


Working pattern 2 (Boys House): 30 hours per week
Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays - 7.30am to 6pm (approximately 24 working Saturdays per annum)


Salary: Based on a full-time equivalent of £25,662.00 per annum. The salary will be calculated based on hours worked and a rate of £13.16 per hour.


In addition, holiday pay will be accrued at an additional rate of £1.59 per hour with the expectation that appropriate leave will be taken outside of term time
