About the Role

Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service (GHES) is looking for outstanding teachers to join their existing teaching team to enable the service to meet the needs of all students being referred this academic year.  We are looking to recruit three teachers – a teacher of Maths (mostly KS4), a teacher of Science (must be able to teach up to GCSE grade 9 in all three sciences), and a Primary teacher who is experienced in working with KS1 and KS2 students with complex needs.  The positions are all initially a 0.8FTE fixed-term contract until the end of the academic year, and the successful candidates would ideally be able to start their role in January 2025.

Throughout Gloucestershire, for students who are too unwell to attend their own school, GHES provides short term education, supporting their reintegration to mainstream schools when they are well enough.  We teach English, maths, science and PSHE to the vast majority of our students, from reception to Year 11.

If you have never considered teaching in Alternative Education this may be the opportunity you are looking for to apply your teaching skills on an individual or small group basis, and being able to make a difference to every child you work with. This is a hugely rewarding role and the successful candidate would find themselves working in a team of highly motivated and creative teachers.  The role can be peripatetic and require travelling across the county to visit children in their homes or to teach in one of our classrooms in Cheltenham. Some lessons are online in small groups, and any candidate would be expected to embrace the use of technology and online learning for this teaching role.

We serve the county of Gloucestershire, and students can be located anywhere within that.  Therefore, it is essential that candidates hold a full driving licence and have use of a car.
