Consultant in Emergency Medicine - C9318-25-0330

Gloucester

Job summary

Did you choose Emergency Medicine for interesting pathology, to treat the full array of patients and clinical presentations? Do you value working with a great team, living in a beautiful area with nationally excelling schools and internationally renowned sporting and cultural events? Come to Gloucestershire.

The departments have segregated Paediatric areas, are well supported by SDECs for medical and surgical specialties, co-located Primary care services, 24/7 onsite PPCI and interventional radiology at GRH.

The team deliver consultant led care from 8am until midnight with non-resident on call overnight, working 1:6 weekends via an annualised and self-rostered job plan. A strategy for reduced antisocial hours for our senior workforce is in place.

Main duties of the job

The post attracts 10 PAs

The Medical Local Negotiating Committee (LNC) has agreed on behalf of the medical staff body within the Trust a standard allocation of 1.5 SPAs for all new appointments. Core duties are included in the present allocation of 1.5 SPAs.

On call supplement will be 3% (Category A) of a basic 10 PA salary.

The department provides 16 hours of Consultant cover, 0800-midnight in Gloucester and 0800-2200 in Cheltenham.

Consultants work a self rostered annualised job plan which optimises clinical cover, and provides flexibility for work/life balance and other interests outside the department. This process also allows for a fixed day off per week.

Weekend working frequency is 1 in 6.

Weekday on calls will be divided amongst the consultants.

The job plan may vary in response to other consultants' leave and to unplanned increases in work. The consultant will be expected to monitor their hours to ensure that the workload averages out to the proposed job plan.

In line with the terms and conditions, the final job plan is subject to the agreement of the Trust through the Specialty Director and the appointee.

Consultants provide cover for their colleagues for emergency work whenever they are away. The maximum number of Consultants away at any one time is always subject to the provision of an adequate service for patients.
