Description

If you are an amazing individual who wants to be rewarded with a great salary and even greater possibilities working as part of a fantastic team then keep reading!

Do you have a passion for problem solving using maths, physics and logic? Do you have the desire to keep people safe from harm?

An exciting new opportunity has arisen within our Forensic Collision Investigation Unit to become a Forensic Collision Investigator.

Whether you have recently left education or are looking for an interesting career change, we are offering you the opportunity to become a trainee Forensic Collision Investigator, with the potential to achieve a BSc degree in Forensic Road Collision Investigation.

This is a challenging and rewarding role where, once fully trained, your expertise will provide important answers to how collisions occurred, providing much needed answers to families and producing expert witness evidence to both the Coronial and Criminal Courts of England and Wales.

As a trainee Forensic Collision Investigator you will undertake a structured trainee programme which will result in being qualified to UCPD level by 2025. Further academic study will continue with a Certificate in Higher Education and then FDSc in Forensic Road Collision Investigation.  Academic studies start in September 2024 and consist of five one week residential blocks with three weeks in the workplace in between when trainees are expected to undertake distance learning tasks.

In addition to mandatory skills such as photography, topographic surveying using laser scanning techniques, and evidence analysis, Forensic Collision Investigators are trained in many other technical disciplines, such as lightbulb analysis, vehicle examination and digital data interrogation.

Being a Forensic Collision Investigator isn’t for everyone. The nature of the job means that this role will be emotionally challenging. A 7-day variable shift pattern and being part of a 24-hour on-call rota means the days can be long and nights cold. The successful candidate will require high levels of motivation and emotional resilience, and be prepared to work shift work, including weekends and bank holidays.

Evidence gathering is time sensitive, meaning that Forensic Collision Investigators are required to successfully complete a standard police driving course leading to you responding to the collision scene with the of use blue lights and sirens.

In return, you will receive a starting wage of £27,789, progressing to £30,783 upon completion of your UCPD with shift work attracting an additional allowance of 27.99%. Your pay will continue to increase when you achieve your CertHE and FDSc. Additionally, all academic studies, including BSc in Forensic Road Collision Investigation, will be funded by Gloucestershire Constabulary.

The application process will consist of aptitude tests which will cover spatial/mechanical reasoning and mathematics, and a competency based interview.

Please refer to the Role Profile document when completing the Statement in support of your application section of the form. In this section, you are required to provide evidence with specific examples for each of the Essential criteria included under the Experience and Qualifications section of the Role Profile. For each of the criteria, please write a paragraph detailing how your experience, qualifications, skills and abilities meet the minimum criteria for the role. You may also wish to do the same for the Desirable criteria, however this is not a mandatory requirement. Applicants who do not provide this required evidence will unfortunately not be invited to interview.

If you require help and support with your application, you can Register your interest with Better Together - Gloucestershire Constabulary (tal.net)
