The Burford Recruitment Company is delighted to be representing a prestigious private estate in the North Cotswolds in their search for a Walled Garden Horticulturist.
This role focuses on the care and maintenance of the estates extensive walled garden, alongside assisting with other areas of the grounds when required. The garden features productive vegetable and fruit beds, espaliered fruit trees, ornamental planting, and glasshouses, requiring a knowledgeable and hands-on approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and cultivate fruit and vegetable beds to provide seasonal produce.
- Care for espaliered fruit trees, trained climbers, and heritage varieties within the walled garden.
- Manage greenhouses, including propagation, nurturing seedlings, and temperature/humidity control.
- Undertake pruning, soil conditioning, mulching, and pest control to ensure healthy plant growth.
- Support the wider garden team in maintaining formal lawns, rose gardens, and ornamental borders.
- Assist in composting, organic gardening techniques, and general sustainability practices.
- Liaise with the Head of Walled Garden regarding planting plans and seasonal projects.
Ideal Candidate:
- A qualified horticulturist (RHS Level 2 or similar preferred) with strong experience in walled garden management or productive horticulture.
- Prior experience working in a Private Estate setting.
- A keen eye for detail and high horticultural standards.
- PA1/PA6 spray certificates and a full UK driving licence are desirable.
- Chainsaw certification is advantageous but not essential.
Salary: £28,000 Annual +
Hours Per Week: Full Time
