Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages
Cheltenham
Start date: September 2025
Contract: 1 Year Fixed Term, Maternity Cover
Responsible to: Head of Department
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheltenham Bournside School as a Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of French, Mandarin and Spanish. Due to the size and flexibility of our language offering at Bournside, we also welcome applicants who are teachers of German.
The MFL Department at Bournside is housed in its own suite of rooms within the school; there are currently eight full and part-time teachers of MFL and two language assistants.
A balanced languages curriculum is taught. In Year 7 we aid to give each student an experience of learning each of our languages - French, German, Spanish and Mandarin. From Year 8 they will be given the chance to specialise in the one(s) they feel they want to take further into Year 8/9 and beyond at GSCE and A-Level. We currently teach the AQA specification for all GSCE languages and for French, German and Spanish at A-Level, and Pearson Edexcel for Mandarin at A-Level.
Many of our students also take additional language GSCEs and A-Levels in either their home language or a language they are studying independently. Our school community speaks over 40 languages and we celebrate that through a variety of activities, often in conjunction with our EAL Coordinator. The post would be an ideal opportunity for a new entrant to the profession although equally attractive to a more experienced colleague. We have a positive commitment to supporting Early Career Teachers and a comprehensive staff development programme.
