The Burford Recruitment Company is delighted to be representing a prestigious private estate in the Cotswolds in their search for a Deputy Head Gardener. This is an exciting opportunity to work within an exceptional historic garden, collaborating closely with the Head Gardener to maintain the estate to the highest standards.
This is a fantastic time to join the gardens team, as they have recently restored the walled kitchen garden to a productive space, with plans underway to enhance other areas of the garden in the coming years.
Key Responsibilities
- General garden maintenance, including mowing, weeding, pruning, and hedge cutting
- Maintaining formal gardens, borders, arboretum, and topiary
- Upkeep of the walled kitchen garden, greenhouses, and plant nursery
- Woodland and stream garden maintenance
- Care of garden buildings, paths, walls, fences, and gates
- Assisting with seasonal planting and propagation
- Ensuring all work adheres to health and safety policies
Skills & Attributes
- Relevant horticultural qualifications (RHS Level 2 or equivalent)
- Professional gardening experience, preferably in a large private garden
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and strong communication skills
- Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure
- Passion for horticulture and a confident, positive attitude
- A driving license is required due to the rural location of the property.
Desirable
- Health and safety qualification
- PA1 and PA6 certification
- Chainsaw certification
Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 Annual + Live-In - Two Bedroom Cottage
Hours Per Week: Full Time
