Health Care Assistant

Part Time/Full Time Experienced HCA wanted for a busy Doctors Surgery
Due to our patient registration list increasing, we would like to expand our work force to improve patient access. Our GP surgery is based at St Pauls Medical Centre in Cheltenham, our current clinical team includes 5 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 2 specialist paramedics, 4 practice nurses led by our lead nurse, we also have phlebotomists/HCA and pharmacists.

Health Care Assistant Position (HCA)
We are looking for an experienced Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly team, to undertake delegated tasks, health promotion and administrative duties.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a busy environment and has a love of patient care.
The ideal candidate would have experience working in a GP surgery in an HCA role.
To work 30-34 hours per week, Monday – Friday, hours negotiable.
You will be required to work with autonomy and confidentiality, sensitivity, discretion, and empathy whilst maintaining a professional demeanour, demonstrating respect, dignity, and a compassionate approach towards patients at all times.

Expected competencies to include, but not limited to:
- New patient health checks and other health screening
- Urinalysis and preparation of specimens
- Blood tests and phlebotomy
- Long term condition reviews where appropriate
- Vaccinations including flu/pneumococcal vaccines
- Dressings and wound-care
- Diabetic checks
- ECGs
- Patient education and promotion of health and well-being
- Gathering lifestyle data from patients
- Infection control and equipment management
- Vaccination management and clinical stock control
- Providing assistance to general practitioners as required support practice nurse clinics. Adhering to clinical guidelines and protocols, seeking guidance from the nursing team or clinicians for any clinical decisions.
- Offering advice and information on general health matters.
- Restocking of clinical rooms with the appropriate levels of supplies and equipment.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential:
• Experience delivering phlebotomy services
• Confident utilising PCs for record keeping/ emails/ internal communications
• Knowledge of confidentiality
• High level of verbal and written English
• Able to work in an inclusive and non-discriminatory way
• Willing to learn new skills and undertake training to support role and personal development
Desirable:
• Experience working in a GP surgery as an HCA
• Skills/ experience with regards to the job description
• NVQ/ BTEC in Health and Social Care or similar
• Knowledge of GP services working processes and workload
• Knowledge of local health services and organisations
• Experience using SystmOne
