Sessional Youth Support Worker
Gloucester
Hours: as arranged with your supervisor
Reporting to: Service Manager
Close Working with: Referral and Assessment Officer, Daystop Support Worker and Senior Practitioner Family Mediation
Working Location: Gloucestershire Nightstop Offices Gloucester, Tewkesbury and around the County of Gloucestershire
Job Purpose:
1. To be an active part of a team that delivers and develops high quality services for young homeless people aged 16 - 25 in Gloucestershire.
2. To be part of a team arranging and providing emergency accommodation for young homeless people in the homes of trained and vetted volunteers, and any other accommodation available via GNS
3. To provide young homeless people with drop in and one to one support on a range of issues to enhance their life chances and transition through homelessness and into independence.
4. To provide Family mediation as appropriate (Training will be provided)
Main responsibilities:
1. To be a primary support contact for young people using Gloucestershire Nightstop services as requested by your supervisor
2. To conduct assessments with young people using Gloucestershire Nightstop services with a view to providing individualised and bespoke support.
3. To conduct outcome interviews for young people supported by Gloucestershire Nightstop.
4. To ensure that access to Gloucestershire Nightstop services for young people is as available as possible
5. To provide support directly to young people on a range of matters including (but not limited to) life skills, practicalities, activities and other areas.
6. To provide mediation sessions to young people and their families referred to this service
7. To participate in the Duty System arranging placements for young people with our Hosting Volunteers.
8. To participate in the on-Call System (on a pro rata basis) providing emergency overnight and weekend support for young people and Hosting Volunteers.
9. Undertake a range of duties to support the work of Gloucestershire Nightstop.
General Responsibilities
Policy and administration
- To keep accurate records of all volunteers, providers and young people and any records needed for the safe and effective running of the service.
- To comply with data protection legislations and Gloucestershire Nightstop policies about the storage and sharing of personal data of staff, volunteers, and young people
Health and safety
- To be familiar with and comply with Gloucestershire Nightstops policy on Health & Safety at Work.
- Ensuring lone working, safeguarding and quality assurance measures are followed and managed appropriately, reporting any relevant issues in accordance with policy and procedure in a timely manner.
Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
To be familiar and comply with Gloucestershire Nightstops Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults policy: safeguarding is everyone’s business, there is an expectation that staff will pass onto the appropriate manager and local authority any child welfare or vulnerable adults concerns that may arise in the course of their duties.

ADDIONAL DUTIES
The work at Gloucestershire Nightstop is often unpredictable and varied, and tasks and responsibilities may change based on circumstances. Specification Essential (E)/Desirable (D)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- At least one year’s experience of working with vulnerable or disadvantaged people E
- Knowledge of youth homelessness issues and legislation affecting young people D
- Knowledge of local housing provision and services for young homeless people D
SKILLS
- Good communication skills at all levels (verbal and written). E
- Good interpersonal skills with the range of Gloucestershire Nightstop stakeholders to include colleagues, volunteers, young people and external agencies E
- The ability to work as a positive part of a team providing support and services to young people in need E
- The ability to work alongside and build relationships with young people experiencing homelessness E
- Effective listening skills E
- The ability to work within a culture of confidentiality, Equality and safeguarding E
- Confident with the basics within the Microsoft Office Software Suite including Word, Outlook E
- The ability to learn new tasks and processes on the job E
- The ability to be self-serving administratively E

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This post will be offered subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check E
Daily access to a car, hold a full current driving license and be fully road legal and appropriate for driving (including transporting young people) as part of your work E
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hours: zero hours per week including some evening and weekend work.
Pension: An employer’s contribution of 3% of the gross salary is payable.
Holidays: 25 days per annumin addition to statutory Bank Holidays prorata
