About the Team and Role
Join the Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service's Professional Standards Unit (PSU), where you'll play a vital role in upholding professional excellence across our service. Working collaboratively with senior GFRS Managers and HR professionals, you'll ensure employee relations cases are handled with the utmost integrity, consistency, and transparency. Whilst sitting within Human Resources, you'll be dedicated to the Fire & Rescue Service, conducting, coordinating and supporting thorough investigations, and maintaining the highest standards of behaviour in line with our Core Values and Workplace Charter.
About You
You'll be an experienced professional with strong investigative skills and MCIPD qualification. Your role will encompass managing, coordinating and supporting disciplinary and grievance cases from initial investigation through to possible Employment Tribunal witness representation. With your keen eye for detail and commitment to fairness, you'll create clear terms of reference for organisational reviews to ensure consistency across all investigations. Your excellent interpersonal skills will be crucial as you manage relationships with employees, senior management, welfare officers and serve as the primary point of contact for the Service's Crimestoppers reporting line.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex disciplinary and grievance investigations, presenting evidence at internal hearings and external tribunals
- Assist in the coordination and support of all employment relations cases in the Fire and rescue Service
- Analyse Employee Relations case data for trends and themes, helping to craft proactive solutions to improve service culture
- Manage welfare officer allocation and prepare comprehensive hearing packs
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation when handling sensitive information
- Facilitate organisational learning through case debriefs and training integration
- Support the implementation of the NFCC Code of Ethics
Additional Duties
- Analyse and report on employee relations trends and outcomes to the senior leadership team
- Drive data-informed decision making through the Workforce Dashboard
- Build effective relationships with Trade Union Representatives and Welfare Support Officers
- Lead policy review and improvement initiatives
- Maintain up-to-date resources on the staffhub intranet
The role requires flexibility to meet service needs, but does also require good visibility and accessibility by employees of GFRS (a minimum of 3 days in the office per week) including some on-call activities which can occur in the evening, as well as some occasional travel to different Service locations.
