Handy Person - Churchdown Parish Council

Do you have an interest in maintenance, gardening or are naturally handy?
Churchdown Parish Council are currently seeking a General Handy Person to join their small team that supports the Councillors in the day to day running of the Parish. Churchdown Parish Council provides a range of services within the Parish including parks, play areas, sports facilities, allotments, gardens, a nature reserve and a community orchard. Churchdown Parish Council also undertakes roadside grass cutting on behalf of Gloucester County Council, provides and maintains a burial ground. We are looking for an all-round practical handy person with good experience in general maintenance, repairs and gardening. This is a very hands-on role and every day will be different.
Duties:
- Perform general maintenance to park equipment and surfaces
- Cutting back hedges and encroaching vegetation
- Clearance of weeds and general gardening
- Grass cutting of non-contracted areas
- Daily litter picking in parks
- Bus Shelter maintenance
- Maintenance and cleaning of public toilets
- General maintenance and repair tasks
- Minor repairs and decoration of Council buildings
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of duties or requirements. The handy person will be expected to perform any other job-related tasks as assigned by the Clerk.
This is a full-time role consisting of 37 hours per week over five days – Monday to Friday. Normal working hours will be Monday – Thursday 8am – 4.30pm and Friday 8am – 4pm but may be open to negotiation. Duties will be carried out within the area or immediate neighbouring area of Churchdown Parish.
Starting Salary will be £23953.80pa (£12.45ph) – you will be enrolled in the NEST pension scheme and will receive 20 days annual leave plus statutory public holidays
- You will be required to hold a clean current driving licence
- Be community minded and take pride in your work
- Possess good manual skills
- Be able to work both as part of a team as well as on your own initiative and without supervision
- Have the ability – with adequate training – to use tools such as hedge trimmers, chain saws, lawn mowers and other garden tools
- Be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check
