MAINTENANCE / HANDY PERSON

Stroud & District Homes Foundation provides residential and supported living services across 7 homes based in Stroud, Stonehouse & Leonard Stanley.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and versatile maintenance / handy person to co-ordinate
and carry our repairs and general maintenance of all our homes, the grounds, the office, vehicles and
equipment for the benefit and safety of our service users and staff.
You will work closely with our Senior Maintenance Person to ensure work is prioritised and completed
in a timely manner.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and skills in many areas such as
carpentry, plumbing, small general building jobs, decorating, minor repairs, understanding fire safety
regulations and emergency situations, renovation and alterations or any other maintenance task as
required
Hours of work: 24 or 32 hours per week (3 or 4 days), Monday to Friday (8.00am to 4.30pm or 8.30am to 5pm) to ensure cover throughout the week however some flexibility will be required to deal with emergencies.

JOB DESCRIPTION
MAINTENANCE / HANDY PERSON
Reports to: Finance & Administration Manager
Senior Maintenance Person
PRINCIPLE PURPOSE
In conjunction with the Senior Maintenance Person co-ordinate and carry out routine
repairs and general maintenance of all homes, the grounds, the office, vehicles and
equipment in a professional, fast, efficient, safe and effective manner.
To undertake responsibilities and work within established procedures and policies
with particular reference to Health and Safety.
To collaborate with and have respect for all colleagues and service users.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform repairs or general maintenance work of all buildings, grounds, equipment and vehicles at various sites as instructed and where it is clear a qualified trade’s person is not required.
• Support the Senior Maintenance person and/or Finance & Administration Manager in coordinating works that need to be completed by other qualified trade persons. Obtain comparative quotes to ensure the charity obtains value for money
• Check maintenance requests from each home and prioritise workload.
• Support Senior Maintenance Person to complete and maintain a maintenance log.
• Monthly legionella checks and maintain log.
• Monthly ladder & window checks & maintain log
• Monitor the fleet vehicles and book services & MOT as appropriate.
• Carry out weekly vehicle checks, complete paperwork and file in the admin office.
• Annual asbestos check
• Move and assist with the transportation of furniture and equipment.
• Painting and decorating as required in all homes.
• Pat testing of electrical items (training will be arranged)
• Arrange the 5-year periodical electrical testing across the sites
• Report all defects and damage to property and equipment immediately to the Senior Maintenance Person / Finance & Administration Manager.
• Ensure grounds are safe and free from hazards and litter. Removal of rubbish from site.
• Support the Senior Maintenance person with coordinating the upkeep of the lawns and gardens, (alongside service user’s where appropriate and where risk assessments are in place.)
• Ensure the safe use and storage of all equipment. Maintain equipment.
• Ensure properties and vehicles are equipped for cold weather conditions, including checking rock salt supplies on all sites. Monitor weather and take appropriate actions. Maintain log.
• Identify tool/resources required to carry out duties ahead of work to be completed. Notify Senior Maintenance Person / Finance & Administration Manager of requirements.
• There may be occasions when you might be required to transport service users as required in company vehicles, accompanied by support/care worker if appropriate.
• Comply with Health and Safety regulations of working.
• Manage time effectively to meet all specified deadlines.
• Ensure relevant training is undertaken.
• Take part in supervisions and appraisals
• Undertake other duties which may be reasonably required from time to time.
• Flexibility from time to time, to work additional hours as shall be reasonable to discharge properly your duties and responsibilities

REFERENCES:
Any offer of employment will be subject to receipt of satisfactory enhanced Disclosure &
Barring Service, 2 satisfactory references, verification of qualifications and right to work in the
UK.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
Probationary period is 6 months.
HOLIDAYS:
28 days per year (pro-rata for part time) to be taken between 1st October and 30 th September
WEEKS and HOURS OF WORK:
24 - 32 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
3 or 4 days per week, Monday to Friday (8.00am to 4.30pm or 8.30am to 5pm) to ensure cover
throughout the week however some flexibility will be required to deal with emergencies
MILEAGE:
This will be paid at the current rate if you are required to travel between sites or to pick up supplies or
equipment in the course of your work
Note: This excludes travel between home and work. It is expected that wherever possible
work will be organised to minimise travel by basing yourselves at one site per day, and
preplanning supplies and equipment
