Box Office Assistant - Part-time - Casual
Cheltenham
Box Office Team - You’ll join a small group of Box Office assistants and work closely with marketing and Front of House teams, as well as the wider theatre departments.
Location - Everyman Theatre, Regent Street. Cheltenham. You will work in both our front of house box office and back of house administration office.
Working Hours - This is a casual role with hours determined by the theatres calendar, we are open Monday-Saturday, 9am-6pm, when there are evening performances staff will be working until the show begins and there is also occasional Sunday performances.
Salary - £11.44 p/h, you will also be paid an extra 60p p/h if you take on any supervisory shifts which is open to all box office staff following a 6-month probation period.
Training - on the job training will be provided and as a specific early February is scheduled
About Us
The Everyman Theatre was built in 1891 by the renowned architect, Frank Matcham. Since then it has taken on several forms from an opera house to a cinema and we are now one of the main regional theatres in the south west, presenting both touring shows and our own productions throughout the year. We also have a dedicated education and community team who run a wide range of classes and workshops for everyone in the local community, from youth theatre and choirs to outreach projects.
Our café and restaurant provide food and refreshments to our customers and run functions for groups and events.
The Role
You’ll be part of a small team of box office assistants, welcoming audiences to a wide range of events.
With the support of our Box Office Managers and the rest of the team, you will sell and distribute tickets, respond to calls and emails, take payments for our classes and workshops and act as a source of information to anyone attending the theatre.
You will often be the first point of contact for our audience members and will play a vital role in representing the theatre as a welcoming and inclusive space.To succeed you will be people-focussed, proactively helpful and be comfortable in using or learning both telephone and computerised systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. The sale and reservation of Everyman Theatre tickets (and any outside events that we sell for at various times) through the use of the Theatre’s computerised Box Office system, via the telephone, post, e-mail and over the counter. This includes re-selling and exchanging tickets when requested.
2. To proactively assist customers with any queries they might have about all aspects of the theatre’s operation, and staying up to date with information given to you by the box office managers and other managerial members of staff.
3. The selling of gift vouchers and other merchandise.
4. Handling cash and other methods of payment and ensuring all rules and policies regarding finances are adhered to.
5. To make an accurate record of any complaints, and to approach them sensitively or refer them to the Box Office Managers.
6. To carry out other tasks as requested by the Box Office Managers such as preparing merchandise for sale and undertaking admin worke.g. deleting duplicated customer accounts.
7. To record and keep customer informationup to date in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations.
8. To assist the marketing department when requested with task such as, but not limited to, replenishing leaflets and posters situated around the building, providing information when requested and assisting with tickets for members of the press or other groups.
9. To maintain a clean and presentable working environment at all times.
10. Upon successful completion of a 6 month probationary period, Box Office Assistants will be required to be trained as and complete hours in a supervisory capacity.
11. Attendance at Staff meetings
12. As a staff member of the Everyman, through their duty of care, ensuring that the working environment and practices conform to Health and Safety legislation and the Everyman’s Health and Safety Policy.
