What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for an experienced, qualified teacher who has a good understanding of SEND and behaviour management to help support our children who are following our ‘Outreach Curriculum’.

We welcome applications from all subject areas, secondary and primary teachers. It is important that the successful applicant has the ability to form relationships quickly with children, staff and families. The successful applicant will spend a large majority of their time teaching 1:1 or in small groups with some of our most vulnerable children who are finding it difficult to access the breadth of our curriculum.

What the school offers its staff

Snowdon Village is one of the Alternative Learning Provisions within the Cabot Learning federation. We have 5 sites, The Nest, Engage, Bristol Futures Academy, City School Head Quarters and City School Kingswood.

Our core values are:

Snowdon Village is the only school in Bristol to have achieved Trauma Informed and Mental Health Aware school status. We pride ourselves on working in a trauma informed way and take a ‘child centred approach’ to education. At Snowdon Village City School we are big advocates of ‘Learning Outside the Classroom’ and recognise that some children need a creative and innovative curriculum to help re-engage them back into school life.

At City School we offer a truly bespoke curriculum package to students aged 14-16 who have not been successful in mainstream schools. Building on the strengths of our students, we tailor the curriculum and use our City School Head Quarters (HQ) as a base to deliver academic and vocational qualifications. Much of the learning we do takes place outside of the classroom – we use the City as our classroom (hence the name City School) - this runs alongside our more conventional curriculum which includes subjects such as English, Maths, Science and PSHE. Students are able to access the range of resource available in our vibrant and diverse City to enhance and develop their knowledge, skills and understanding, equipping them for the next steps in their lives.

This is a new and exciting post, we anticipate the Outreach Teacher will work closely with the City School Kingswood team and be based most of the time at City School HQ (Russell Town Ave, Redfield, Bristol BS5 9JH).

Due to the nature of the role it is highly desirable that the post holder can drive and has their own car but we are willing to accept applications from non-drivers who have extensive experience of working with vulnerable children.

A good understanding of formal examinations and access arrangements is also desirable but not essential as training will be given to the successful candidate.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant): childcare disqualification Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) medical online and social media prohibition from teaching right to work satisfactory references suitability to work with children

You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
