Weekend Retail Supervisor - FOWA - WRS2024

About the role

Working in the Westonbirt Shop is at the front line of raising funds to help us support The National Arboretum to protect trees and enrich lives. The Westonbirt Shop is a bright and welcoming space, known for its array of stunning locally sourced, unique and eco-friendly product ranges.

As our Weekend Retail Supervisor your passion for outstanding customer interaction will serve you well in managing the day-to-day operations of the shop over the weekend. In the absence of the Managers you will often be the main supervisory staff on Saturdays and Sundays and you will be comfortable in this accountable and autonomous role. You’ll also be working with teams across the site to ensure the shop is an integral part of the visitor experience.

Our Retail Team are in a key position to share the amazing work we support through membership, donations and shop profits, which are donated to the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum (The Friends) charity to support visionary projects at the arboretum. Your proactive approach will motivate your colleagues to champion the work taking place at Westonbirt Arboretum and proudly talk about how customers can further support the arboretum’s cause through The Friends.

As our Weekend Retail Supervisor you will have a love of working with people and a desire to provide an excellent service. You will acknowledge, welcome and proactively engage every visitor, helping them to find and fall in love with our products and advise them on their purchases. The key objectives are to provide customers with a welcoming and enjoyable shopping experience, in a confident and friendly manner whilst ensuring cash and stock handling procedures are adhered to at all times.

Main Duties include:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable retail experience with some managerial or supervisory experience. You will be customer focussed, with an engaging personality and a genuine passion for enhancing the visitor experience. You will be comfortable with the autonomy of this role and have a high level of integrity and professionalism.

About Westonbirt Arboretum

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum is world-renowned as one of Britain's finest tree collections. With over 600 acres homing 15,000 specimens and 2,500 tree species from all over the world, including rare and endangered trees, the arboretum plays a vital part in research and conservation, and is a popular visitor attraction, drawing over 500,000 visitors each year.

The Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum (FoWA) is a charity that employs a small team of staff to nurture and grow our community of over 36,000 supporters and to further public enjoyment and knowledge of Westonbirt. The Friends work closely with Forestry England (FE) to support and develop Westonbirt Arboretum as both organisations work towards accomplishing our joint 10-Year Vision for Westonbirt to be a world leader in trees. In 2020 the charity formed an enterprise strand, which is now responsible for managing and running the Westonbirt Shop.

Salary: £11.80 per hour

Hours Per Week: 14-16 hrs pw over 2 days (Saturday & Sunday)
