Valley Bridge School, is a new independent special school for pupils aged 6 – 19, set in a beautiful location in Whaddon, near Gloucester, that is due to open for students in September 2024.
Are you an experienced teaching assistant with a passion for supporting pupils with SEMH needs? Are you nurturing, understanding and resilient? Do you want to feel valued, supported and part of a strong team?
We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and creative teaching assistants who are open to learning a modern approach to teaching pupils with social, emotional, mental health needs.
This is a term time only post, take home pay for the post is £20,443 per annum.

Teaching Assistant
Job details
- Hours: 40 (or pro rata)
- Contract type: Full-time / permanent
Main purpose
The aim of this role is to work under the guidance/instruction of designated teaching/senior staff to
undertake teaching programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in
the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside
the main teaching area under the guidance of teaching staff.
Duties and responsibilities
Key Tasks
- To provide support to pupils to enable full access to the curriculum and any extra curricula activities e.g. lessons, reviews and visits.
- To work with individuals and groups of pupils under the direction of the class teacher.
- To help plan and organise learning activities for pupils.
- To contribute to setting individuals targets and to the review of those targets.
- Attend and contribute to meetings to review students’ progress and contribute to written reports.
- To monitor the progress of identified students, keep written records consistent with Spaghetti Bridge systems and provide feedback on student’s progress.
- To provide support for pupils emotional and social development by encouraging and modelling positive behaviour and dealing with disruption as agreed in the school’s behaviour management policy.
- To liaise with staff, parents/carers, relevant professionals and external agencies where necessary.
- To assist in the production of appropriate teaching materials.
- To promote the pupil’s inclusion within the school
- To undertake relevant training as part of continued professional development. Whole-school organisation, strategy and development
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s values and vision
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
- Provide cover, in the unforeseen circumstance that another teaching assistance is unable to teach

- Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils
- Maintain good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment

- Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures
- Take part in further training and development in order to improve own work practices.

- Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and carers
Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals
- Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues
Personal and professional conduct
- Maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school
- Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality
- Understand and act within the statutory frameworks setting out their professional duties and responsibilities
The teaching assistant will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow school policies and the staff code of conduct.
