Community Ambassador Volunteer
Gloucester
We are looking for Community Ambassador Volunteers across the UK to raise
awareness and support of Winston’s Wish.
Winston’s Wish is a charity that helps children, teenagers and young adults (up to the age of
25) find their feet when their worlds are turned upside down by grief. Through information,
on-demand services, bereavement support and counselling, we support young people to
understand their feelings, process their grief and find ways to move forward with hope for a
brighter future. We also help the adults who are caring for young grieving people including
parents, school staff and healthcare professionals.
To help us reach more bereaved children and young people up to the age of 25, we need an
army of enthusiastic Community Ambassador Volunteers to help spread the word of our
service across local communities and networks and to inspire others to fundraise.
Role summary
• Researching community groups, libraries, sports clubs, schools and businesses in
your area with a view to inspiring them to support the work of Winston’s Wish and
fundraise.
• Contacting relevant children and youth organisations with a view to displaying
Winston’s Wish collateral.
• Sharing your regional knowledge to identify future fundraising and charity partnership
opportunities.
• Championing Winston’s Wish in your local community, using your networks and
contacts to spread the word of the charity.
• Attending cheque presentations and local events on behalf of Winston’s Wish (when
required), and thanking the hosts for their kindness and generosity.
• Co-ordinating collection tin locations in your area.
• An option of giving scripted, inspirational talks about Winston’s Wish and our work
supporting bereaved children and young people (should you feel comfortable).
Skills needed
Friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic, proactive and committed to generating opportunities with a
passion for championing childhood bereavement. Good communication skills, strong
organisational skills, good local knowledge and an ability to work on own initiative.
What will you get in return?
In return you will gain experience for your CV, meet new people and support your local
community whilst knowing you’re making a difference and contributing to a worthwhile
children’s charity.
This is a flexible, unpaid role with no commitment to set hours. Although you will be
committing as much or as little time to the role, it would be desirable for you to spend a
minimum of five hours per month researching and contacting organisations in your local
community. All reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Full guidance and toolkit will
be provided, along with support from the Volunteer Manager.
Please note, you must be aged 18 or over to apply to become a Community Ambassador
volunteer. This volunteer role does not involve any work with the bereaved children and
young people we support.
