Fundraising Trustee - Part-time, Voluntary Role

Stroud

The Door is governed by a board of trustees, who ensure that we’re continuing to achieve our charitable objectives, and take ultimate responsibility for our strategic direction, legal compliance and financial stability.  They monitor our progress towards agreed targets, and ensure that we’re run both efficiently and ethically, with appropriate policies in place.

Trustees are volunteers who use their skills, knowledge and experience to help the board reach sound decisions. This may include scrutinising circulated papers, leading discussions focussing on key issues and providing advice and guidance on issues in which they have special expertise.

At the moment we’re particularly looking for someone with special expertise and experience in fundraising.  The majority of The Door’s income is from voluntary sources – grants from trusts and local authoritiesand individual and corporate donations – so it is vitally important that we can meet our fundraising targets in these challenging times to be able to continue to deliver our award-winning services.

The role involves taking strategic oversight of fundraising at The Door, and advising the board on fundraising strategy.  A background in successful charity fundraising might be helpful, but it’s more important thatyou have a sound understanding of the current funding landscape. You will be well-connected and willing to use your personal networks and influence to support the fundraising efforts of The Door.  You may also have experience of social enterprise development and philanthropy.

To become a trustee of The Door, you must be at least 18, committed to our vision and objectives, and able to subscribe to our statement of beliefs.  You’ll have good, independent judgement, and an ability to think creatively and work effectively as a member of a team.  You’ll need to understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, and be able tocommit to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

You’d need to be available for management meetings 8 times a year, which are currently held in the evenings, generally on Mondays or Tuesdays, but beyond this the time commitment is very flexible.

There are also plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in other voluntary activities at The Door such as mentoring a young person or helping on the ground with fundraising and publicity events.

If this sounds interesting, we’d love to hear from you.
