Liaison Officer
Stonehouse, Gloucestershire
Sunflowers Suicide Support are looking for a Suicide Liaison Officer to join our growing team!
This is a part time role with at least one working day to be a Friday afternoon. Experience working with children and young people desirable and a DBS will be required.
The role
Reporting directly to the Liaison Team Leader, the Suicide Liaison Officer will deliver trauma-informed suicide support to adults, children and young people as part of the Sunflowers Liaison Service.
The support we offer is person-led, and each support package will vary based on need, therefore the role will involve conducting thorough needs assessments and reviews to meet practical needs that arise as well as, assessing risk, and monitoring for symptoms of trauma (including secondary trauma).
The suicide liaison officer role will include provision of postvention liaison support, appropriate psychological support, psychoeducation (information giving) and signposting, intervention signposting, safeguarding, and liaising with external organisations and agencies. The post holder will be required to work as part of a small team and at all times ensure confidential records are kept securely and accurately in line with the organisation’s clinical governance and confidentiality policy.
A requirement of this role is a commitment to partake in regular development opportunities and attend monthly clinical supervision.
About you
The successful candidate will need to be a team player with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
An ability to show compassion and empathy to others whilst maintaining a professional relationship is imperative to ensure a safe and caring environment is provided for service users.
The successful candidate will have the ability and motivation to manage their own workload, meeting a diverse range of complex needs, and be flexible in their approach to work.
Relevant work experience and a knowledge and an understanding of complicated grief, and the impact of bereavement by suicide is essential.
A professional qualification and experience working with grieving people, including children and young people is beneficial, as is previous identifiable experience of trauma-informed care.
The successful candidate will have attended or be willing to attend Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Postvention Support Training (PABBS).
They will be confident in having difficult conversations and have a positive approach to their own wellbeing, ensuring they are able to practice their own self-care.
Experience of creating and maintaining partnerships with other organisations and additional mental health or psychology qualifications would be a bonus.
If bereaved or affected personally by suicide applicant should be 3 years post bereavement or loss or significantly adjusted to their own experience.
Working arrangements:
The office core hours are 9am to 5pm, but Sunflowers offer flexibility in work hours to meet individual and service needs. Evening and weekend meetings may be required, for example for an organisational event, support group session or 1-2-1 meeting with service users.
We are happy to consider applications from candidates who are looking for full time or part time hours, and will also consider job shares arrangements. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own diary working. If applying for this role in a part time capacity or as a potential job share, hours would be agreed prior to starting. The usual place of work is our office in Stonehouse where we have an on-site carpark. The role will involve travel throughout Gloucestershire and having a clean driving licence with own vehicle is essential.
Line Management:
This post will be managed by the Liaison Team Leader.
Support:
Initial support during the probationary period will be provided by the Operations Manager. You may have access to monthly supervision as well as training and development opportunities.
Probationary period:
3 months from start date.
By the end of the probationary period, you must be able to exercise all the functions of the post with competence.
DBS:
This post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
